Chamber Hosting 7th Christmas in GurdonPublished Wednesday, November 29, 1995 in the Gurdon TimesFor the seventh year in a row, the Gurdon Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring "Christmas in Gurdon." The festivities will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 in downtown Gurdon. The annual Christmas parade will be held at 4 p.m. It will follow the same route as the Forest Festival Parade. According to Chamber president Anita Cabe, there will be drawings for gift certificates. These certificates can be redeemed in any local store that is a member of the Chamber. To enter, fill out an entry blank at any merchant that's a Chamber member and drop it in the box. In addition, businesses can compete in the annual Window Decorating Contest. Cabe said there would also be a prize for the winner in the float contest as well. Christmas in Gurdon began in 1988, she said, to promote Gurdon, shopping with Gurdon merchants and for the businesses to show the merchandise they had for sale. Because of this, businesses will have open house all day Dec. 5. But, for many, the best part of all will be when the jolly visitor from the North Pole shows up. Cabe said Santa Claus will make his first appearance in Gurdon as a member of the parade. Merchants participating in the event include: Austin's Variety; Ann's Smoke Shop; Alliance Home Health Care; D&D Auto Parts; Forget Me Knot Shop; First State Bank of Gurdon; Jif-E Mart; Horizon Bank of Gurdon; Kuhn's Sentry Hardware; Mike's Automotive; The Shoe Box; Thomerson Drugs; Piggly Wiggly; and Pizza Barn. Others involved, both businesses and individual members of the Chamber, are: Alliance Insurance Group; Anthony Timberlands, Inc.; Arkansas Power and Light Co.; Arkla Gas Co.; BMCA Ambulance Service; Paul Barringer; Al Brown; Anita Cabe; the Cabe Foundation; Calley's Fina Station; Central Arkansas Development Council; Dan Cook's Office Supply; Doug's Grocery; Jimmie Dean Foyil; Gurdon Car Wash; Gurdon Housing Authority; Clarence Haltom; H&R Block; Hines Trucking, Inc.; Hoo-Hoo International; Horne Funeral Home; International Paper; PGR Communications; Pineview Care Center; Tammie Pledger; Fred E. Reed; H. Evelyn Reed; Pete Rudolph; Charles Shaver; Mayor Rick Smith; Sonic Drive-In; Southwestern Bell Telephone; St. Joseph's Mercy Medical Clinic; the Gurdon Times; TCA Cable of Arkadelphia; Billy C.
