Hendrix Attends WorkshopsPublished Wednesday, June 30, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneMary R. Hendrix of Nevada High School attended a week-long series of workshops at Harding University June 7-11. The institute was a collaborative effort between the Family and Consumer Sciences Division of Workforce Education, the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, Henderson State University, the University of Central Arkansas and Harding University. The series of workshops were designed to benefit family and consumer sciences teachers at the middle and high school levels. Each day featured a subject matter specialty within family and consumer sciences. With a theme of 'Technology, Standards, and Trends in Family and Consumer Sciences,' the sessions covered topics including National Standards for FACS Education, child development, child care, managing resources, nutrition and wellness, food production management, and family work connections. Mini-sessions strengthened the teachers' skills in professional dress and etiquette, public relations, marketing and integrating FHA into the curriculum. Approximately 150 teachers participated in the Institute. "The institute was great," Hendrix said. "The knowledge I gained will help me provide my students with the latest material available and great ways to present them to my class."
