Health-A-Rama Is This Saturday At First BaptistPublished Wednesday, September 8, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneIt's time for the Third Annual Health-A-Rama. This event will be held at the First Baptist Church gymnasium, in air conditioned comfort. Outside, there will be food vendors and other events for the visitors to participate in. The health fair will run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. Visitors are urged to fast before coming to the health fair, so the screenings and tests done will be more accurate. These include exams for diabetes and cholesterol. Once tested, though, it's time to head to the food vendors and pig out. Other screening tests offered include oxygen saturation, blood pressure, cataract and glaucoma testing, anemia screening, child development tests and, for those interested, testing on body mass and strength flexibility. In addition, there will be health education booths on hand, providing information on a wide variety of topics. Data on drug/alcohol abuse, lyme disease, driver safety, breast cancer awareness, teen suicide prevention, organ donations, hospice care, physical fitness and financial health, will be available. For the technically oriented, information will be on hand on how to access health related data from the Internet. Parents can bring their children to the health fair and have them fingerprinted with a photo identification made as well. The youngsters will also have the chance to play health related games, Bingo, swap Beanie Babies, get their faces painted, visit with McGruff the Crime Dog and enter a coloring contest. Parents can also have their children screened for child development milestones. The health fair is sponsored by the Nevada County Health Alliance. This is a core group of healthcare professionals representing the health care providers of the area. The alliance was created when the Nevada County Hospital closed, with the idea being to show health services were still available to those living in Prescott and Nevada County.
