Chamber Gives Holiday AwardsPublished Wednesday, December 13, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of the business' "Best Decorated Window Contest" along with the "Christmas Outdoor Home Decorating Contest." The overall winner, capturing the traveling trophy was Prescott Flowers and Gifts. Betty's Floral Shop took the top spot and a ribbon for their effort. Prescott Hardware earned a ribbon for other businesses, while the Senior Citizens Center captured the honors for organizations. For those who decorated their homes, Steve and Janis Wren won best overall for the city, while Edd and LaDonna Cross earned the honor for county residents. James and Shelia Cannon took the city title for best lighted display, with Richard and Betty Kenzel doing so for the county. William and Carolyn Stovall had the city's best unlighted display, while William and Helen Mullins earned the honor for county residents. Kenny and Dana Fincher's display was named to have the best theme for the city, with Jackie and Frank Cross doing likewise for the county. There were 31 entries; 21 from the city and 10 from the county, including Rosston, Cale and Emmet. Plans are being made to expand the contest for 1996. A number of homes have been beautifully decorated for the holidays in the area. A list of homes and addresses entering the contest are available at the Chamber office. Ownership of all Nevada County Picayune content from the beginning of the newspaper, including predecessors, until May 2001 was contributed by the John and Betty Ragsdale family to the Prescott Community Freenet Association.
