ing his stay in Norway, Haynes was given a per diem stipend to help cover expenses. The USOC also picked up the tab for travel and lodging.

However, he said the phone bill back home was large as he called his wife, Denise, every night.

Denise stayed home in Prescott with their two children. Chase, six, and daughter Alex, 4.

When asked about future plans, Haynes said he's happy here right now, and wants to concentrate on his young family.

"They're my first priority now," he said. "Chase is a big baseball player and I like watching him." Chase is a member of the Van Oil Little League team in Prescott.

Haynes said on the way home from New York, after leaving Norway, a minor league baseball scout with the Houston Astro organization talked to him about possibly coming on board.

He declined. "There's a lot of travel involved," he said. "My kids are more important than travel right now. I'm in no big hurry."

Haynes was doing his student training at ASU when Larry Lacewell was head coach. Lacewell is now an assistant coach with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.

Haynes said he's contacted him about possibly becoming a trainer with the Cowboys, but knows it will be tough. "Trainers with pro teams stay," he said.

In the meantime, Haynes will be working on student athletes in Hope and Prescott, watching his children participate in athletics and waiting for the phone to ring again.

Who knows where his next adventure will take him.
