Eight Arrested In Drug RaidPublished Wednesday, December 13, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayuneEight people were arrested in a Sunday evening drug raid in Rosston. According to Jim Westmoreland, criminal investigator for the Nevada County Sheriff's Office and Prescott Police Department, information was developed, which led to warrants being issued Sunday afternoon around 4 o'clock. Deputies were called in, and the raid took place about 7 p.m. at the home of Steven Dean of Rosston. Westmoreland said officers broke in the door to the residence, finding eight adults and seven children there. Nevada County Sheriff Harold Vines spearheaded the assault on the home, which turned up eight rifles and shotguns and a number of handguns. In addition, officers found a large amount of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, and a white powdery substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine. Assorted alleged drug paraphernalia was also found at the scene. This included used syringes, spoons used to "cook" the narcotics, scales for measuring the drugs, pipes, a paper roller and about $5,000 in cash. Other items were found which will be used in the further investigation of the case, along with the prosecution of those involved. Those participating in the raid included: Vines, Westmoreland, Morris Vines, Wayne Kisselburg and "Narco" the Nevada County Sheriff's Office's drug dog, Wally Hulan, Roy Frazier and Jason Arrington. Auxiliary deputies Tommy Glass and Larry Miller, along with Arkansas Game and Fish Commission officer Bill VanScoy helped as well. Westmoreland said the children were released to other relatives and the Department of Human Services will be notified. While no charges were filed as of press time, Westmoreland said felony and misdemeanor charges are pending and will be filed. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
