Haynie Leads NJHS Boys Over Emerson

Nevada's junior boys walloped Emerson 49-20 to ensure a winning night for the Jay teams Saturday.

However, the junior Jays opened slowly as they trailed 6-3 at the end of one. By halftime, however, the offense had heated up and Nevada led 17-11. The visiting Jays pulled away in the third, 34-16, as their defense shut down the Pirates.

Lamar Haynie led all scorers with 17 points, while Julius Gulley sent 12 through the nets.

The Jays were four of nine from the line.

The host Pirates were led by P. Copeland's 12, all from three-point land.

Emerson was one of three in free throws.

In their Dec. 12 game against Stamps, the junior Lady Jays were less than kind in posting a 49-10 thrashing on the Lady Yellowjackets.

At no time did the Stamps squad score more than three points in a quarter.

The Lady Jays, on the other hand, were hot as they opened with a 7-3 lead after one and went to the locker room at the half with an insurmountable 24-5 advantage. It didn't get any better in the third period as they Jays added 16 more to their talley to go up 40-7 at the end of three.

Ramona Evans paced the Lady Jays with 13, while Jackie House canned 11 in the outing.

The Nevada quintet connected on five of eight free throw attempts.

LeAnn Webb led Stamps with six points.

The Lady 'Jackets were two of six from the charity stripe.

The younger players took to the court against Spring Hill, Monday, Dec. 11, winning two of three games.

Nevada's eighth grade boys posted a 45-28 whipping of the Bear Cubs, behind a balanced scoring attack.

Jeffrey Box paced the Jays with nine. Rico Holliman and Kevin Ingram each scored seven.

The Jays, though, were only one of six at the line.

The Cubs were led by Shaw Seward's nine.

They were three of 10 from the stripe.

The Jays led 17-4 after one, 25-16 at the half and 36-23 at the end of three.

The seventh grade boys fell 27-26, though.

Calvin Young was the leading scorer for Nevada with 10.

F. Brent led all scorers with 13 for Spring Hill.

The teams were knotted 4-4 at the end of one, with Nevada taking a 10-8 lead at the break. Spring Hill raced to a 20-15 lead after three and held off Nevada's fourth quarter rally.

Nevada's seventh grade girls slipped by the Lady Cubs 24-20.

Pam Christopher owned the scoring with 18 points for the Lady Jays. Correntha Gulley had five and Crystal Moss netted one.

The Lady Jays were three of 16 from the line.

Spring Hill was led by Lekie Bobo's nine.

The Lady Cubs were eight of 13 in free throws.
