Jays Handle Stamps; Fall To Emerson TeamPublished Wednesday, December 20, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayuneNevada's senior boys split games last week as they whipped Stamps 62-46, but fell to Emerson 56-47 Saturday night. The Pirates opened the game with a 12-10 lead and never looked back. At halftime, they held a 30-19 advantage and were up 41-39 at the end of three. Reginald Reed paced the Jays with 13 points, while teammate Joseph Young poured in 11. The Jays shot 76 percent from the stripe as they netted eight of 12 attempts. Emerson had three players in double figures, with T. Boyd leading all scorers with 19. S. Pennington heated the nets for 16, while A. Polk ripped the cords for 14. The 'Bucs were four of six at the line. On Dec. 12, though, it was a different story as the Yellowjackets took it on the chin. The game opened with Stamps taking a 16-12 lead at the conclusion of the first 10 minutes. However, Nevada put up a brick wall in the second quarter, only giving up eight points while scoring 15 to take a 27-24 lead at the break. By the end of three, the Jays held a commanding lead 46-30 and pulled away to a 62-46 win. Reed again led the Jays with 16, while Jermaine Perkins added 11. J. Young contributed 10 to the win. The Jays also shot well from the line as they netted 19 of 30 attempts. Kelvin Howell led all scorers with 20 points, as the only Jacket to reach double figures. Stamps was four of 12 at the line.
