Annexation Resolution Passed; City Buys PropertyPublished Wednesday, December 20, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe highlight of the Prescott City Council meeting Monday night was the telephone conference call announcing Rip Griffin's Truck/Travel Center. The conversation was interupted by the fire siren directly over the city hall. Mark Griffin told the group about the company's plans to locate at exit 44 on Interstate 30 in Prescott within two years. The company will spend nearly $5 million in building and hopes to have annual sales of $6 to $8 million and employee over 100 people with an expected payroll of $1.2 to $1.5 million. The council also heard from State Representative Percy Malone and State Senator Mike Ross on the growth and recruitment involved. Jim Sharkey, industrial recruiter for Nevada County, said working on getting jobs into a community is a team effort and this time his (and the county's) team won. In other business, the council agreed to purchase the Arkla property near Walnut street for $16,000. The property already has some building on it and has a chain link fence. The council also approved the resolution annexing property into the city limits. The legal notice and with the full descrption of the property will run in next week's Nevada County Picayune.
