Three More Busted For Drugs

Published Wednesday, December 20, 1995 in the Nevada County Picayune

Three more area residents find themselves guests of the county after being arrested on drug charges last week.

According to Nevada County Sheriff Harold Vines, Willis Love, 31, of Emmet, Nathaniel Confron, 30, of Prescott, and O.C. Willingham, 51, of Prescott, were arrested and charged with delivery of a controlled substance, namely crack cocaine.

Vines said Love was arrested Thursday evening, while Willingham and Confron were nabbed Friday morning, Dec. 15.

The arrests came from an undercover operation with the Eighth Judicial District Drug Task Force, along with assistance with the Prescott Police Department.

Vines said the investigation continues, and the NCSO has warrants for more arrests in the probe.

Authorities arrested Marius Johnson, 24, of Prescott Friday morning on drug charges.

Vines said his office received a tip as to Johnson's whereabouts. Officers, acting on the tip, found the suspect walking around in the area and made the arrest.

He was charged with possession of a controlled substance (namely crack cocaine) with intent to deliver, along with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Johnson was the suspect officers with the NCSO and PPD were after when a raid was staged at a home on West Main Nov. 13.

During the raid, officers found three rock-like substances believed to be crack cocaine in the kitchen area of the house, along with other drug paraphernalia.

Four people have been charged in connection with a drug raid in Rosston, which occurred Dec. 10.

Steven Dean, 43, of Rosston, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

His wife, Erika Dean, 24, was charged with the same crimes.

Robert Jones, 24, of Rosston, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, as was 21-year-old Brian Shewbirt of Rosston.

During the raid eight people were picked up, though four have been released. Vines said these people could be charged later on.

Officers found a large amount of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, along with a large amount of a white powdery substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine. In addition, officers confiscated a number of rifles, shotguns and handguns.

Vines said paraphernalia was also located at the scene, including spoons used to "cook" the narcotics, scales used in measuring drugs, used syringes, pipes and a paper roller. Additionally about $5,000 in cash was found.

A fourth drug-related arrest saw Jerry Clayton, 29, of Prescott arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested Saturday, Dec. 9 and has been released on $2,500 bond.

According to Jim Westmoreland, criminal investigator with the NCSO and PPD, an 18-year-old Rosston youth has been charged with third degree battery and terroristic threatening in the second degree.

These charges stem from an altercation at Sorrell's Grocery in Rosston in which the youth, Marcus Bell, and four others attacked and beat a 16-year-old.

Bell has been charged as an adult, while the other four have been turned over to juvenile authorities. He was arrested Friday, Dec. 15, at the Nevada school.
