For Viewing on World Wide WebPublished Wednesday, January 3, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneLocal businesses and churches are being invited to put information on PCFA.ORG, the local Internet access computer. When the information is added to the PCFA.ORG's home page, it may be viewed by anyone in the world through the World Wide Web. The Prescott Community Freenet Association (PCFA), which operates the PCFA.ORG computer, hopes the information will give a favorable impression about the area. Perhaps some of the on-lookers will be the decision-makers who can choose Nevada County to be the next home for their industry. PCFA is sending a letter to businesses and churches asking for a few paragraphs of information. The information may include the name, address, phone number, type of business or services, product lines carried, and times of services. History and biographies of the founders are also welcome. According to PCFA secretary/treasurer Danny Stewart, there is no cost or obligation involved with submitting the information. Stewart said one of PCFA's goals is to accumulate a large amount of information about the community and make it available to everyone. This is part of that effort. PCFA does not charge for access to the Internet. It relies upon contributions from sponsors, businesses, individuals, and users. So far, more than $3,900 has been contributed. About 85 people have Wolf Den accounts. The letter also asks for financial support. PCFA still owes about $3,000 for the computer. The local telephone lines, which allow residents to access the Internet, have an annual cost of about $540 each. Three lines are now available to the general public, which means three local people may use PCFA.ORG at one time. More contributions help pay for more phone lines which allows more people to benefit from PCFA.ORG. The mailing includes an application for a PCFA.ORG account. Applications may also be obtained by sending a self-addressed and stamped envelope to PCFA at 615 Oak Street in Prescott, at NAPA, Taylor's Grocery, and on-line at 887-1842 by logging in as new. PCFA.ORG obtains its internet connection at the Prescott Schools as part of the Arkansas Public School Computer Network. In addition to school information, a profile on Nevada County is being built, many users have their own home pages, and users can read the Nevada County Picayune and The Gurdon Times. The PCFA.ORG home page may be reached at http://www.pcfa.org/. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
