Several Motions Entered in Pre-Trial

At the defendant's request, the murder trial of Joe Louis Dansby will be held in Nevada County.

This was decided in a pre-trial situation Monday, Jan. 8 in the Nevada County Courthouse before Eighth Judicial District Judge Joe Griffin.

Dansby also requested two pieces of evidence against him be suppressed. One was the .22 caliber rifle reportedly used to kill Jeff Lewis and Malissa Clark on May 16, 1992. The other piece of evidence is a blood test taken at a later date.

The request to hold the trial in Nevada County was made by Dansby's court-appointed attorney Gene Hale.

All pretrial motions must be presented by Feb. 29, 1996, with another pretrial hearing scheduled for May 15, 1996.

Attempts to reach Hale and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Danny Rodgers were unsuccessful Tuesday morning before press time.
