Total LossPublished Wednesday, January 10, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesMembers of the Gurdon Fire Department fought to contain a blaze that consumed the home of Don and Nancy Sporer Monday night. The house was located on Highway 67 about a fourth of a mile from the new Gurdon High School complex. According to fire chief Jake McBride, the fire apparantly began in a storage building where the Storers were attempting to thaw out a frozen well pump with a kerosene heater. McBride said the couple had just sat down to supper when a neighbor called to tell them of the blaze. Firefighters were hampered in their battle because of having to repeatedly go back to town and fill up the pumper trucks. This situation should be alleviated somewhat when the water system in the area goes on line in the near future Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
