Applications Sought For Save The Children Sponsorship ProgramPublished Wednesday, January 10, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesClark County Youth Development Center, Inc. is now accepting applications for children to be enrolled in the Save The Children Sponsonship Program. The sponsorship program will provide services to children ages 0-14. The child must be single and a fulltime resident of Clark County. The child's parents or legal guardian must give written permission for his/her child to be in the sponsorship program. A Save the Children Federation sponsor is someone who sincerely cares about improving the lives and living conditions for children. The sponsor donates money on a regular basis (usually monthly) to Save the Childern Federation. The donations given by the sponsor are pooled/combined with donations from other sponsors to improvement projects in Clark County served by Clark County Youth Development Center. Some of the projects that are provided by Clark County Youth Development Center are -- Youth Leadership Council: The council and its members develop and carry out a regular schedule of activities especially for children in the sponsorship program, including birthday parties, cultural eduational activities, dances, field trips and publication of a quarterly newsletter. Through these activities, the youth in the sponsorship program get an opportunity to learn and practice their leadership and group participation skills. Tutorial Program: The center conducts a tutorial program for school aged youth. Summer Enrichment and Recreation Programs: These are offered in addition to Youth Council Activities. HIPPY (Home Instruction Program for Parents and Preschool youngsters) program: The program will provide services for children 3-5 years of age. Gurdon Rural Family Freinds Project: The program provides services to children 0-12 years of age. Miss Gurdon Lake Pageant: The pageant involves children 0-21 years of age. Application forms are available at Clark County Youth Development Center. There are no fees to become a member of the sponsorship program. Parental consent must abe given for children to participate.
