Prescott's junior girls continue to whip those who oppose them on the basketball court.

On Jan. 10, they thumped Gurdon 48-28 to run their record to 10-2.

Both teams had slow first quarters, but Gurdon's junior Lady Go-Devils managed to post a 6-4 lead.

However, in the second period, the Cubettes came to life as they rallied to take an 18-10 lead to the lockers at the break.

In the third period, the Prescott squad slowed somewhat as the Lady Devils cut the lead to five at 31-26. But, the final six minutes was all Prescott as the girls outscored Gurdon 17-2.

Stacy Stockton paced Prescott with 22 points, including a 12 of 17 effort at the line, along with 10 rebounds and four assists. Traci Graham and Jessica Hendrix each poured in 11. Kamori Scott ripped down nine boards.

Gurdon was led by Helen Dickens with 11.

Overall, Prescott was 16 of 25 at the free throw line, while Gurdon was 0-2.

On Jan. 11, the Wolverettes tangled with the ever-tough Saratoga Lady Bullpups, but came home with a 42-35 win to go to 11-2.

Coach Cecily Butler said her girls were leg weary after the Gurdon game, as the Lady Devils play an up and down style.

The Lady 'Pups took a 12-9 lead after one, but trailed 19-15 at the half.

Saratoga responded by tying the game at 29-29 when the buzzer sounded ending the third quarter, but the Wolverettes would give no quarter as they outscored their hosts 13-6 in the final stanza.

Graham and Stockton played string music to the tune of 16 points each. Scott pulled down six rebounds, while Graham had five boards and four steals.

The Wolverettes were five of eight from the line, with Stockton taking all of the free throws.

Porter paced Saratoga with 15.

The Lady 'Pups were one of three at the stripe.

The Wolverettes played Gurdon again Tuesday night, and have a date with Hope Thursday, Jan. 18. The eighth grade teams play Emmet here Wednesday night.
