In December, 101 Southern Arkansas University students completed course requirements to receive their degrees in May. Of those gradautes, 19 graduated with honors. Students attaining a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 to 3.74 will gradaute cum laude, students who earn a GPA of 3.75 to 3.89 will graduate magna cum laude, and students who earn a GPA of 3.9 to 4.0 will graduate summa cum laude, the highest honor given.

Among the graduates were Kimberly Nicole Huett of Emmet, cum laude with a BSE in elementary education; Linda Marie Barkley of Prescott with a BS in sociology; Carol Cassandra Coleman of Rosston with a BS in sociology (social work specialization) and Terri Jo Irvin of Rosston with a BSE in elementary edcuation.


Joanna Person Michner of Prescott was named to the dean's list honor roll at Ouachita Baptist Univesity in Arkadelphia. Michner will graduate in May with a degree in dietetics.


The director of the board for Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges has revelaed the certification of Jane Wrenette Stockton. She was elected for this honor in recognition of outstanding merit and accomplishment as a student.

Nominees are chosen based on academic achievements, service to the community, leadership in extra curricular activities and potential for continued success.

Stockton joins an elite group of students selected for 1996 from more than 1,800 institutes of higher learning in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and several foreign nations.

This award is one of the most prestigious earned by any students. The group of outstanding students has been honored each year for the past 62 years in the annual directory, which was first published in 1934.

Stockton's acheivements, accomplishments and activities include academic honors and scholarships; Phi Beta Lambda: state reporter, vice president and executive vice president; national, state and local business awards; Arkansas Children's Hospital fundraiser; Adopt-A-Highway program; Baptist Student Union; Students In Free Enterprise Honors Class and Organization; and the Business Internship program.

In addition to being a fulltime student at Southern Arkansas University, she is employed by the SAU office of administration and finance and by the Wal-Mart Corporation.

Stockton is a senior business administration major. She is the daughter of Mack and Linda Stockton of Emmet.


Prescott resident Kelly Smith has been placed on the dean's list at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn., for the 1995 fall semester. To be named to the list, a fulltime student must maintain a 3.3 grade point average for that semester.

Smith is a freshman business administration (accounting) major. She is the daughter of Bobby and Bonnie Smith.

Freed-Hardeman University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's and master's degrees.
