Bluff CityJerry McKelvyPublished Wednesday, June 30, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune Laverne Green visited her sister, Lille Mae Odell, in Hope for a few days last week. At last report, Obie Odell had been admitted to a nursing home in Hope. James and Kay Nelson were happy to hear that Vince had been made terminal manager for American Freightways in Little Rock. He has been with them for five years. He and his family live in Alexander. Hopefully, Vince and his family will get to stay there for a while. James and Kay Nelson also heard from their other son, Andy. He and Elizabeth had just returned from a trip to Telluride, Colo. Andy is a pharmaceutical representative for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. The trip was won by his district and several of the reps and their spouses were treated to a relaxing four days and nights. They reported having a good time. James and Kay are proud of their boys and their families. I hope you have been able to keep the coons out of your sweet corn. Our garden was the target a few nights ago. It's time for a history lesson again. Do you remember the gasoline shortage in 1973? I remember stopping for gas at Willisville and was only allowed two dollars worth. George Henry's station in Bluff City ran completely out for a day or so. There was another gas shortage in 1979 and the prices climbed as high as 99.9 cents per gallon. Our thought this week: "Beautiful young people are works of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art." Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
