Published Wednesday, January 17, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune

April Westmoreland, the 22-year-old daughter of Jim and Judy Westmoreland of Prescott, recently won the Master Card ACTS (American Collegiate Talent Search) at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She was one of 14 who competed and won with a vocal solo of "Orange Colored Sky."

The victory enables Westmoreland to compete on January 25 at SMU in Dallas in the South Central Regional competition. She will be representing the university as well as the state of Arkansas as she competes against other winners from this region.

A win in Dallas would award Westmoreland with $1,500 as well as a trip to the national competition in Nashville, Tenn., where the winner will be declared "America's Most Talented College Student for 1996." Along with this title comes $15,000 and an opportunity to meet with national talent representatives.

Westmoreland is a senior at UA. She will be graduating with honors on May 11, with a bachelor of arts in microbiology.
