Fire Destroys Hay, BarnPublished Wednesday, January 17, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneFire destroyed a barn and more than 100 bales of hay owned by Ned Ray Purtle Sunday. According to Hope Fire Department officials, firefighters arrived on the scene at 10:58 a.m. and battled the blaze unsuccessfully until 12:15 p.m. The barn and hay were burned to the ground. The barn was located in the area of the 34 mile marker on Interstate 30, near Emmet. Officials say the blaze apparently began as a grass fire on the interstate and spread to the barn.
